Walkies on Burnham on Sea beach - TA8 1BT

We are moving house to the sea side in Devon next weekend so we are making sure we do visits to all the places we wanted to go in the Bristol/somerset side of town.

So off we went to Burnham on sea.

I'm driving...

I saw a lurcher - he looked like a greyhound with a saluki head. I saw him from right up other end the beach walking with his hoomans and after a long while we were at the same part of the beach. I gave him a ikle glance and walked past. but the hoomans stopped me and tell me to say hi to him. His name was Billy (I think) and we did lots of sniffing each other and wagging us tails with us ears pricked up. and I got so excited I did big slobbering - all the hoomans laughed at me and said "ya wont get a bf that way"

I did walking and running OFF MY LEAD - it was so much fun and hooman girl ran with me and I did listening to her when she says my name "cat" and when she says "stop" and "come here" I didn't run away or chase another dog or any thing was greyt.

I did meeting lots of other dogs too. 3 labradors and they was all different flavours. one was chocolate, one was Harvey coloured like treacle and one was Golden Syrup flavour.
I also did meeting a Bichon, a poodle, some little terrier types.

I like this beach because it is long and you can do a really nice walk all the way from one end to the other (out of season - in the months April to September dogs are only allowed on a bit of it) just be careful because in bits of the beach the sand is really soft like mud and if you stand on this you will sink and if you is wearing shoes they might come off (what did happen to my hooman girl).

After walking on the beach we went up to look at the pier which is the shortest pier in Britain - other than weymouths bandstand pier but they made that explode to make it smallest which probably might be cheating.

and I did win on the arcade.

and then I met Thomas the Tank Engine

Church House Inn Marldon - TQ3 1SL

Sorry no photos this time as we didn't go for a day trip really, we were on "business" and the battery on hooman girls phone was sleeping. but next time fotos promise.

My hooman girl had to go to Exeter (that's in Devon) for big talks about working she going to do when we move house in 2 weeks time (we're moving to the beach) and so me and the hooman boy tagged along in the hopes of a  walk on the beach and some food in a nice dog friendly pub in the evening. Now again this is a place we was going to do going to when we were in the area a few weeks back but hooman girl was feeling poorly as it is JUST up the road from the campsite we stayed at (well it was more a cold muddly field to be honest and we slept in the car for most the night).

So any way - we were in the area and we decided yes lets go get some foods at The Church House Inn so off we went in the car. They have a car park at the back of the pub and like a garden with grass and benches. Then there's a door at the side after going down some steps and another door at the front.

The door at the front you can turn left or right after going through it - on the left they have carpet and on the right they have like bricky stuff (The hoomans called it slate) and on both sides was a log fire. Dogs are ONLY allowed on the slate side (the hoomans can sit that side too with the dogs so that's nice). So off I went and settled down in front of the log fire on the slate side of the room.

Hooman boy got drinks and did reading the menu and the man behind the bar did bringing me a biscuit which he made hop across the room like a wabbit - hmmmm *confused hound* well I tried to eat the biccy (once it had done running around the room) but it keeps doing falling out of my mouth before I could do eating it proper so I didn't do having it in the end.

We did talking to two other hoomans who was in the bar. They told us about their dog who is 80% black lab (like Harvey) and 20% Alsation (I dont know any of thems but one did come in the pub later and tried jump on me where I was doing sleeping) and they told us about how the lady who works at the pub did telling people I had tweeted to her about coming (me thinks they was laughing at me and my hoomans for doing twitter but I dont care I'm just real good at typing) and then they did holding on to me and giving me ear scratches whilst the hoomans did go to the bar and ask the lady for their dinners. Thankyou kind hoomans for taking care of me so I wouldn't be on my ownself.
So I moved away from the fire coz I was getting way hot and bits of burning stuff kept jumping out at me and went and sat between the hoomans and did snoozing.

Then the food did coming, hooman boy had a cheese board with crackers and grapes and chutney and apple and stuff. One of the grapes fell off and did rolling on the floor, I didn't feel like eating it today though so I just sat on it. and hooman girl had a butternut squash wellington with potatoes and vegetables. and it had a red sauce on it (I dont know what it was made from).
Food was yum yum yum (the hoomans say - I didn't want to try much but I had a bit of cheese and bread and   some pastry and sauce from the wellington which was good.) The butter to put on the bread and crackers wasn't very easy to spread but it tasted good in lumps on the bread too. The food was good size portions, not too expensive, hot and well cooked. and tasted great. The cheese board you actually get like 4 cheeses not just one like in most places and a good amount of crackers and the grapes and apple slices (which was sweet - hooman boy asked me to mention that).

The hoomans did putting their cutlery down so I decided it was time to leave then and stood up and walked towards the door. I know whose in charge around here.

Oh also something the hoomans might care to know. toilets were clean and a good size and had plenty of soap and hot water and the hand dryer was pretty funky and did it's job well (though hooman girl decided to finish drying her hands on the fire). Staff were nice and friendly, as were the locals in the bar who all wanted have a chat to us and pet me and all the things friendly people do.

Killing me piggi lug

Walkies on weston - super - mare beach.

So me hoomans did deciding that they go take me to Weston for a late nite beach walk and get some dinners to eat.

We did walking on the beach and looking for the sea (but I couldn't find it), and we did walk a long long way to the very old burnbeck pier, then we did walk by the houses and hotels and I did sniffing in all the gates and hooman girl did telling me stories about when she was little and where she use to go with her grown up hoomans.

I did trying to sniff out a fwend of mine that does living in weston but I did not sniff her this time. on the beach I did meeting a whippet, a boxer dog and one those hairless white dogs (dont know what they called) and I did looking at stars. hooman girl helped me to spot the north star and the saucepan star and the 7 sister stars - I did finding them all.

Then we did walking to the food shop and hooman girl got fish & chips and hooman boy got sousige & chip with curry sauce and I did having some of everything.

Then we did going home in the car where I did sleeping the whole way.

sorry no photos we didnt take camera.

The Victoria inn Salcombe - TQ8 8BU

So I finally got my hoomans to do taking me to the Victoria Inn Salcombe. We was suppose to do going there last time we was in the area but it was brrrr cold and hooman girl was feeling poorly so we didn't get to go.
But on Friday it was the hooman grandad's birthday - he pretty old - and so we decided on doing a day trip to Devon and I did thinking that since I was going to be quite near to the Victoria Inn and since all my hoomans (and me) do love to eat that a visit here was a great idea.

Now a few things to consider before a trip to the victoria inn

1) if you does not know the way and you are doing asking a sat nav then you be careful because actually it made us do driving down some really small roads that I really dont think were made for driving cars on and we even had to do waiting for a tractor that was cutting bits off of a bunch of trees in one of the lanes.

2) ALOT of people seem to like the victoria inn so if you want to do sitting down and especially if you want to do eating you should get one the hoomans to call them 1st and order a table. We didn't do that but we did get there quite early in the evening (like just before 5) and they dont start cooking dinner until 6 so we got a table and our food. we was very lucky.

The victoria inn has a real fire which was luffly and warm. I did warming my furs on it and snuffling the coals from the bucket.
and then I did curling up and going to sleep

OK so now to the food. - The hoomans did ordering food right at 6pm and the food did coming to the table really quickly which was really cool but usually that means the food wont be very good (like the cold soggy chips hooman girl had in a pub at lunch which were ready in the kitchen when she asked for them).

Hooman boy had something quite funny. he had in his dish the shells that I do find on the beach all the time. but he did tell me that it was "moule mariniere" which I do looking and it is mussles (thats them shells) cooked in white wine and cream. and it had a big bread roll with it.
They were actually very yummy - I did try one and so did hooman girl and hooman grandad. It is one of their "special" foods so not something you can have every day.

Hooman girl had the mushroom wellington (it's nothing to do with rain shoes!) It was a big mushroom stuffed with cream cheese and spinach inside of pastry and it did come with potatoes and vegetables.  The cabbage tasted funny - in a good way!!

The hooman grandad had pork belly - ummm yes it's kind of what it sounded like its the belly of pork and it came with mash and veg and gravy.

The victoria inn also has a play area and large garden - we didn't see it because it was brrrr cold outside but it looks nice on the fotos I have seen. It has a covered seating area, 2 sun terraces and chickens and ducks at the end.
All well behaved doggys are offered treats (I did give mine to a labrador that looked like my friend Harvey because I couldn't chew it with no tuffs and it also wasn't my favourite kind - The biscuit not the labrador!).

UPDATE 14th July 2012

“Second Visit - Still LOVE it! Dog Friendly, great food, lovely staff.”
Being hand fed ham by the landlady
Visited on Saturday Lunch Time as we loved the food on our last visit so much. (Plus I have been promising Liz I would return and say Hi since she wasn't working last time we were in!).

Arrived about 1130ish and the pub was as busy as I had expected (very!), Plenty of customers and their furry companions. We planned on sitting in the garden and enjoy the sun - but then it started raining. After heading inside and deciding our greyhound was too much of a trip hazard on the available seat we went back outside to the covered patio area!
Ordered lunch. 2 times haddock, chips and minted pea purée and the kidney bean and cheese kiev (Which usually comes with salad and new potatoes but being a little unusual we had it with the Victorias cheesy chips - Because we are on a mission to compare the cheesy chips of all our favourite places!). Food was served exceptionally quickly and was as usually absolutely lovely. Even the fussy greyhound tucked in to some of everything on the plates - not OFF of the plates, she has her own bowl for these occasions!
Liz was kind enough to fetch "Cat" (the Greyhound!) some Ham from the kitchen - She highly recommends you try it!

The inside the pub isn't huge and it does get very busy so (as I said in my last review of the Victoria Inn) if you want to get a seat and especially if you want a meal then I suggest you book a table in the restaurant (dogs aren't allowed in the restaurant area though) However, there is a lovely outside area which is huge. It has a covered terrace area, a patio and a grassed area with Chickens and Ducks at the back of it and a children's play area.

What I like about the Victoria Inn Salcombe

- The food is amazing
- It's dog friendly as all the best places are.
- The staff are all lovely and helpful.
- It's clean and staff clear the tables promptly.
- It has a lovely outdoor area
- It's a great place for the whole family. = Good food,Good beer, Children's play area, Dog friendly.
- All the ingredients for their food is sourced locally.

What I dislike about the Victoria Inn Salcombe

ummmm .... nothing!!!!!!!!

Will be back for a visit very soon.

My weekend playdate with Tessamaraner and Harv the Lab

So this morning was exciting. The hoomans did taking me back to the Bird in Hand pub in Saltford where I had done arranging to do meeting with 2 my fwends from twitter and their hooman. Their names are Tess and Harvey and their hooman is named Claire. Tess is a weimaraner which is a kind of small grey thing with big floppy ears. She did tweeting me a joke. "I'm a hound and I'm grey but I'm not a greyhound. what am I?" .... "I'm Tessamaraner!" Her big brother Harvey is a Labrador and he is black. He is getting a bit old now (think he was like maybe 9 or something) and has poorly leggys so he likes a small slow mooch.
ooops. never work wiv animals.
So yeah any way we did meeting up. Tess did a bit of shouting at me when she 1st did seeing me. I think she was a bit excited to be seeing me at last. and I did wagging my tail at her to say I liked the look of her. Harvey I think I forgot to say "Hi" to him at first coz I was doing listening to what Tessamaraner had to do saying. and then we did choosing to walk down the river pathway and did spotting the swans. When we got to the end bit we did eatting some treats and bikkies and had a foto taken together... the 1st one we didn't do very good posing.

Then we got this one ....

Tess and Claire and Harvey and Cat

I like play dates I do. Here I said a better Hello to Harv' and we sniffed each others noses.
When we got back to the cars and it was time to say bye bye I did thinking to myself I not wanting my fwends to do going home and went to chat to them some more.  They have a carpet in the car. A CARPET!!! but I got a pillow in my car. uh huh!!!

Bye Tess. Bye Harv. See yu nuther times.
