Leadstone Camping - Dawlish warren

Leadstone Camping,
Warren Road,
Dawlish,
South Devon.
EX7 0NG.
Tel: 01626 864411

We stayed at Leadstone for two nights at the start of the summer holidays this year. Two adults, two dogs, large tent and car cost us £25.50 per night.
The site is very close to Dawlish warren, which has beach, nature reserve, shops,  pubs, cafe, crazy golf. All you need for a day out really.

The site was a good size, think there was 3 or 4 large fields for camping. Staff was very friendly and helpful; showed us to our pitch and pointed out all the facilities etc , we had originally booked for 1 night but re-booking for the 2nd night was no problem. There is a good size toilet block for both male and female plus a shower block (again 1 male 1 female) and 2 single shower rooms. All very clean. Showers cost 20p a go but you get more than enough time to have a good shower and hair wash etc. Also a laundry room, ironing board, hair dryer etc (charges apply)

There isn't a designated dog walking area though and they do say dogs to be exercised off site. Which is fine except when it comes to late night/early morning toilet outing and trying to find somewhere that isn't on someones doorstep (or the tenting equivalent)

Site was quiet by 1030 - 11pm both nights we stayed. (apart from the neighbours snoring).

N.B - Some breeds of dogs are not allowed on site.

"Dogs - we are all dog lovers here, Bertie and Jack - our Springers are very popular with our younger visitors however following an incident elsewhere in the area we have reluctantly reviewed our "Dogs Welcome" policy and we are sorry but now reserve the right to refuse admission for some breeds.  Irresponsible owners are to blame for this move, so please phone for details if you are concerned.
Well behaved dogs (see above paragraph) are allowed on the strict understanding that they are kept on a lead AT ALL TIMES and exercised off the site."

  1. I have just tried to book this campsite for our holiday - we have a very well behaved staffordshire bull terrier and were told in no uncertain terms she was not welcome. How biased! This is the type of place that gives the dog it's reputation. We were not even given a chance to prove what a wonderful breed they are. wil be avoiding this place like the plague!

    1. Hi Yes I know they have some stupid rules around what constitutes a dangerous breed. "following an incident elsewhere in the area we have reluctantly reviewed our "Dogs Welcome" policy and we are sorry but now reserve the right to refuse admission for some breeds. Irresponsible owners are to blame for this move, so please phone for details if you are concerned."
I can recommend some more sites where I'm sure your staffie will be very welcome - we love staffies!
Try peppermint park which is a park holidays site also in dawlish http://www.parkholidays.com/uk-holiday-parks-caravan-holidays-breaks/south-devon/peppermint-dawlish-warren or I believe ladys mile http://www.ladysmile.co.uk/ or Cofton http://www.coftonholidays.co.uk/home allow dogs. but please do check first!
